What is Visa-Free Travel?

When traveling to some countries, you can only travel with the passport or identity document you have. In this case, the country you will visit will not require a visa from you.

You can travel without having to wait in line at consulates or similar intermediary institutions to enter the country, or without having to chase documents.

Can You Travel Without a Passport?

Citizens of the Republic of Turkey can travel to some countries without a passport. Official ID is sufficient for these travels. If you want to travel without a passport, you must have a new type of photo and chip ID from the Republic of Turkey.

Countries You Can Visit Without a Passport

In addition to the countries that do not require a visa from citizens of the Republic of Turkey, there are countries that you can enter without showing a passport. Moldova, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Georgia and Ukraine are among the countries that do not require passports from Turkish citizens. You can enter these countries with documents such as a driver's license or ID.

The countries you can travel to only with an ID card are:

  • Georgia

Travel Tips-Balkan Countries That Do Not Require a Visa

Some Balkan countries, which do not require a visa from Turkish citizens, are also among the destinations in Europe that can be visited without a visa. Here are the Balkan countries that do not require a visa:

  • Albania
  • Belarus
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Montenegro
  • Kosovo
  • Serbia
  • moldova
  • North Macedonia

Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia are among the Balkan countries that do not require a visa from Turkish citizens for up to 90 days. While you can travel to Albania and North Macedonia in any season, Kosovo has a cold climate, so it is more suitable to visit in the spring if you are not planning a ski holiday.

Other visa-free Balkan countries, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, can be traveled without a visa for a period not exceeding 90 days within 180 days.

Montenegro is very attractive in terms of summer and winter tourism. Sports such as diving, surfing and sailing are popular in summer.

Serbia attracts attention with its lively nightlife as well as its historical and cultural riches.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is among the Balkan countries that can be visited without a visa and has a uniquely mature spirit. Sarajevo, the capital of the country, which is very close to us with its cultural structure, is an ideal destination for weekend trips.

North Macedonia is also among the visa-free Balkan countries and offers a cultural mosaic containing the rich heritage of Rome, Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire. Especially the capital Skopje is worth seeing.

HOW TO TRAVEL WITHOUT A VISA?

You need to meet some requirements when traveling from Turkey to countries that can be visited without a visa.

When traveling to visa-free countries, it is mandatory to have a passport with at least 6 months validity.

You need to pay the international departure fee. 2024 international exit fee has not been updated yet.

Customs officers may ask to see your hotel reservations, round-trip tickets and private travel health insurance. Therefore, keep printouts or digital copies of documents related to your trip with you.

Documents required for visa at the door

The required documents may differ from country to country, but in any case, the documents you need to have with you are:

  • Passport valid for at least 1 year and its photocopy
  • Visa fee
  • Travel insurance
  • Hotel or accommodation document
  • At least 4 biometric photographs
  • Bank account statement from at least 3 months ago
  • Visa application form
  • Roundtrip and return flight tickets

Is vaccination required in the country you will travel to?

Some African and South American countries impose mandatory vaccination. It is important to get vaccinated 10 days before your trip, especially if you plan to travel to these countries that require the Yellow Fever vaccine, because it takes 10 days for the vaccine to become effective. You can check whether vaccination is compulsory in the country you will visit on the Ministry of Health website.

Things to Pay Attention to in the Countries You Will Travel Without a Visa:

  • The country you will be traveling to may expect your passport to be valid for the duration of your stay. It may be important to have a passport with at least 6 months validity.
  • Get your vaccinations, taking into account the health conditions and vaccination requirements of the country you will visit. Also carry travel health insurance with you.
  • Make a note of the consulate or embassy information of the country you will visit in case of emergencies.
  • Keep the currency of the country you are going to as foreign currency.
  • The right to travel to Azerbaijan without a passport is only valid for direct flights via Türkiye; If you are going to transfer from another country, keep your passport with you.
  • From time to time, South Africa may not even require a visa from Turkish citizens at the door.
